Fingerprints from Botched Burglary Lead to Arrest, Police Say

The Tuesday bust by Joliet police marks Bryan Bernal's third arrest since March, according to jail records.

A Joliet man who left his fingerprints behind at a botched break-in scene has been arrested for burglary, Joliet police said.

Bryan S. Bernal, also known as Bryan Ramirez-Bernal, 18, was arrested at his
206 Pine St. home Tuesday on a warrant issued by the Joliet Police Department,
Capt. Tab Jensen said.

According to reports, Bernal knocked on the door of a house in the 500 block of Henderson at about 11 a.m. Oct. 2. The homeowner, thinking the knocking was at the front door, went to the front of the residence, only to hear a window on the back porch being broken, Jensen said.

The homeowner went to retrieve a gun as Bernal allegedly kicked in the porch door, he said. When Bernal heard the homeowner coming through kitchen and out to the porch, he fled the scene, he said.

Fingerprints retrieved from the house linked Bernal to the case, and an arrest warrant was issued and executed this week.

Bernal is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.

According to jail records, this marks Bernal's third arrest this year. He was also charged on Oct. 9 with possession of a controlled substance and on March 13 with residential burglary, records show.
