3rd Story Window Rescue During Crest Hill Fire

CREST HILL, IL — The Lockport Township Fire Protection District rescued a man holding on to his third-story townhouse window during a fire around 4:40 a.m. Saturday. Another person inside the dwelling escaped to safety, deputy fire chief Frank Blaskey said.

The fire broke out at the three-story townhouse in the 2100 block of Crest Hill's Jasmine Drive. Firefighters saw smoke coming from the end of the large of three-story townhouse.

"The first engine immediately took a ground ladder to the victim and were able to safely assist him down the ladder while other companies worked to extinguish the fire," Blaskey's news release announced.

Lockport Township quickly brought under control and contained to the single unit causing extensive damage. The victim who was rescued from the window refused to go the hospital, the chief said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Lockport fire investigators.
