The men admitted to driving around looking for things to steal and took a case of beer they found in an unlocked garage, Joliet police said.
Four men driving around looking for things to steal found an open garage from which they stole a case of beer, Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.
Police were alerted to the situation when they received a call at about 3:45 a.m. Thursday from a neighbor who observed the group in the 3100 block of Gloria Lane trying door car handles in an attempt to get into vehicles, Roechner said.
The neighbor provided a description of the gold Chevrolet Monte Carlo in which they driving, and officers stopped it in the area of Pathfinder Lane and Old Renwick Road, he said. At about the same time, police received a call about an attached garage being burglarized at 3845 Trading Post Lane, he said.
Upon questioning, the group admitted they had been driving in the area looking for cash and other things to steal, and that they had taken a case of beer from the unlocked garage of the Trading Post home, Roechner said.
Arrested and charged with residential burglary were Gabriel Irace, 19, 1306 Prodehl, Lockport; Jeffrey A. Velarde, 20, 14055 S. High St., Lockport; James A. Richards, 22, 123 Nick, Elwood; and Antwyn Bowie, 24, 521 N. Briggs, Joliet.
All four men are being held in Will County jail pending a bond hearing.
Although the men admitted to taking change from cars, no charges were filed because no residents contacted police about their vehicles being burglarized, Roechner said.
