Funeral Set For Joliet Mother Sara Altiery, 27, Killed On Route 6

The 27-year-old Joliet woman, along with her 6-year-old son, Levi Eichelberger, died when their car crashed into an oncoming pickup truck.

JOLIET, IL — Family, friends and coworkers of Sara Altiery will gather next Thursday at a Coal City funeral home to remember the 27-year-old Joliet mother who died in a head-on crash along Route 6. Altiery's 6-year-old son, Levi Eichelberger, was also killed in the wreck.

Altiery's funeral arrangements are being handled by the Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Homes. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. on June 10 and a live stream service will take place at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements for Altiery's son, Levi, were not listed on the Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home website.

According to her obituary, Altiery was raised in Braidwood, and she graduated from Reed-Custer High School with the Class of 2011. Since 2018, she worked in Morris with United Meter as a secretary.

"A devoted mother to three, Sara’s hobbies included reading, gardening and a love of animals. No hobby was greater however, than that of being a mother. Sara leaves behind an unforgettable smile, and will be remembered for her ability to make everyone she encountered feel special," her obituary stated.

According to Joliet police, the double fatality involved two vehicles in front of Ecolab, 3001 Channahon Road, shortly before 6:30 p.m. on May 26.

The Joliet Police Department's preliminary investigation determined that Altiery's sedan was eastbound on Channahon Road, which is also known as U.S. Route 6, at which time her car veered into the oncoming traffic lane and collided head on with a westbound pickup truck driven by a 48-year-old Joliet man.
