Goodbye, Rockdale: PSC Bringing 40 Jobs To Joliet, New Building

Polar Service Centers says it has outgrown its Rockdale property on Harris Drive. It wants to build a new facility in Joliet along Route 6.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet City Council may vote Tuesday night on a special use permit for a Rockdale company that wants to build a new facility along Route 6. Polar Service Centers plans to construct its new building on a 10.3-acre parcel south of Patricia Lane at U.S. Route 6.

If the Council approves the development, Polar Service Centers would bring 40 jobs to Joliet.

According to new Joliet City Manager Jim Capparelli, PSC provides parts and repair services to tank trucks and tank trailers that move food, fuel and chemicals. PSC has 32 locations throughout the U.S. including a facility at 132 South Harris Drive in Rockdale, city of Joliet reports show.

"PSC has outgrown this space and seeks a special use permit to build a larger facility at the subject property, which would employ approximately 40 people," Capparelli's memo informed the City Council.

In Joliet, special use permits are required for tank truck and tank trailer repair facilities. Secondly, PSC has sought a special use permit to sell used tank trucks, tank trailers and equipment accessories, city documents state.

According to the city of Joliet:

  • The 28,600-square-foot shop will be setback more than 200 feet from Route 6.
  • The company will create parking for 48 vehicles north of the building and parking for 110 tank trucks and tank trailers east, west and south of the building.
  • PSC already has approval from the Illinois Department of Transportation for their front entrance onto Route 6.
