Gunfire On Summit Street Leads To Joliet Man's Arrest: Police

Joliet police say they recovered a loaded gun from the house in the 400 block of Summit Street.

JOLIET, IL — A 37-year-old Joliet who pulled out a loaded gun and fired his weapon multiple times early Wednesday morning is now in the Will County Jail, Joliet police announced. Ernesto Amezola was arrested by Joliet police on charges of reckless discharge of a gun, police said.

Squad cars rolled up to a house on Joliet's near west side, in the 400 block of Summit Street, around 12:50 a.m. after learning of a disturbance involving a man with a gun, reports show.

"Officers determined that Amezola had discharged multiple rounds from a firearm that he possessed during an argument with family members," Joliet police said.

After Amezola was firing his gun, a relative managed to get the gun from him and put it in the house, Joliet police said.

"Officers recovered a loaded firearm at the scene as well as spent shell casings from the yard. Amezola was taken into custody without incident," police reports show.

Amezola lives in the 400 block of North Center Street. He was booked into the Will County Jail around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, jail records show.
