Have a Live Christmas Tree? Here's How to Dispose of It
The city of Joliet will pick up old trees as part of the regular curbside trash collection or recycle them through the Forest Preserve District of Will County.

'Tis the time to start thinking about saying goodbye to your Christmas tree. If you have a live one, you have two options.
The city of Joliet sent this message about curbside collection:
"The City of Joliet and Waste Management want to remind all residents who have a real Christmas tree to set it out, in one piece, at your normal pick-up location (curb or alley) on your regular trash day for pick up. The Christmas trees will be collected until Friday, January 31, 2014."
You also have the option of recycling it through the Forest Preserve District of Will County, which will chip old trees and use the mulch on trails and for landscaping. We ran this information from the district earlier in the week:
“Recycle the Holiday Spirit!, a free Christmas tree recycling program offered by the Forest Preserve District of Will County, will be Saturday, December 28 through Saturday, January 11, with four tree drop-off sites around the county.
"Trees can be dropped off at any of the facilities between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please remove all tinsel, lights and ornaments. Only family trees will be accepted; no commercial trees will be taken. The drop-off locations are:
