Man, 75, Dies In Head-On Crash On Larkin Avenue: Coroner

JOLIET, IL — A 75-year-old man from Wilmington died Thursday night several hours after being hospitalized following a head-on crash along Larkin Avenue in Joliet.

The Will County Coroner's Office identified the fatal crash victim as John R. McDade. He died at 9:05 p.m. Thursday at the AMITA Health St. Joseph Medical Center Emergency Room.

"Mr. McDade was the driver of a vehicle that collided with another vehicle at the intersection of North Larkin Avenue and Douglas Street in Joliet," the coroner's office announced.

The Joliet Police Department is investigating the incident. The final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date.

According to the police, a 21-year-old woman was driving southbound on Larkin Avenue approaching Douglas Street when she lost control and entered the northbound lanes of North Larkin Avenue. She collided with McDade's vehicle, injuring him and his 72-year-old female passenger.

The Wilmington man was extricated from his vehicle and transported to AMITA St. Joseph Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, Joliet police said.

McDade's passenger and the 21-year-old driver of the other vehicle were hospitalized with serious injuries, Joliet police announced. Thursday's wreck happened at 3:45 p.m.
