JOLIET, IL — Last week, heavy construction equipment from D Construction in Coal City was busy tearing apart the parking lot behind the Chicken-N-Spice restaurant in downtown Joliet. In recent days, the work has shifted to Webster Street where construction cranes have been ripping out the street. At times, the work can get quite loud.

What's going on? Are these crews from D Construction about to bulldoze Joliet's beloved Chicken-N-Spice restaurant?

Don't worry, Joliet.

JJC officials told Patch that the construction work around the perimeter of the culinary arts building will include landscaping and the creation of a pedestrian area.

As part of the project, Webster Street is being closed and vacated to vehicle traffic.

According to JJC, the summer construction work will also include the addition of a light feature on the northern side of the JJC building.
