JOLIET, IL — The wife of the 48-year-old Joliet man who was seriously injured during a May 26 head-on crash along Route 6 that killed two people has set up a GoFundMe to raise $10,000 to help with their expenses.

The GoFundMe is called Help The Ross Family With Expenses. The money will be used for rent, food and monthly bills.

"My husband Michael was in a head-on car accident on May 26, 2021, that left him in critical condition," his wife wrote. "He was treated locally, but then later airlifted to Loyola where (he) spent 4 days in a coma.

"He can no longer work at this time, and I’ll be his primary caregiver ... Our lives have been forever changed. I am looking for assistance to cover our expenses temporarily until we can navigate through all of this. All donations are appreciated."

Michael Ross's wife informed people on GoFundMe that her husband has had five separate surgeries, and that he's done for now.

"Unfortunately, they were not able to save his leg. But he’s been positive through the process," she wrote.

Joliet Patch reported in late May that a preliminary investigation of the crash by Joliet police determined that a sedan driven by Sara Altiery, 27, of Joliet, was eastbound on Channahon Road at which time her car veered into the oncoming traffic lane and collided head on with a westbound pickup truck driven by the 48-year-old Joliet man.

Ross was taken to Silver Cross Hospital and was then flown to Loyola Medical Center.

Altiery and her 6-year-old son, Levi Eichelberger, were taken to Amita St. Joseph Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The boy died of his injuries at the hospital, and Altiery died the following morning, May 27.
