House Fire Leaves Woman In Serious Condition, Kills Dog

Neighbors alerted firefighters that a woman was still in the burning home. Her dog perished in the fire.

CREST HILL, IL —A woman found in a burning home Saturday evening was taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in serious condition, fire officials said Sunday. The Lockport Township Fire Protection District responded to a house fire around 6:48 p.m. in the 2000 block of Susanna Way in Crest Hill to find heavy smoke coming from the front door.

Neighbors told firefighters someone was still inside the home. Firefighters were able to knock down the main body of the fire and search for the occupant.

They found a woman, who was removed from the home in serious condition and taken to St. Joe's by ambulance.

Fire officials said the woman's dog died in the fire. There were no other injuries.

The fire was brought under control and caused around $30,000 in damages, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Companies from the New Lenox, Romeoville, and Troy fire departments provided station coverage as Lockport Township firefighters responded to the fire.
