JOLIET, IL — After more than five years of operating, Jeff Reid announced on Sunday night that he is closing Jerrie's Dogs And More, a restaurant he opened at 1003 Essington Road adjacent to his Double J Sports Bar.

This Wednesday, June 30, will be his last day of business for Jerrie's.

"There comes a time in one's life where he must decide what one wants," Reid announced on Facebook. "I have other opportunities ahead of me and I feel I need to pursue them. I have always followed my dreams and Jerrie's was one of them ... This Wednesday, June 30th, will be the last day Jerrie's Dogs and More will be open.

"I am closing up at 8 p.m. and this will be the end of serving up one of the best hot dogs in J-Town. Thank you to every employee I had here over the last five years ... In my mother's honor, here is to Jerrie. Cheers to each and every one of you that supported me. Sincerely, Jeff Reid."

The restaurant on Essington Road is named after Reid's late mother, Jerrie.

"Jerrie never passed a hot dog stand without stopping in for one. You always knew she stopped because you could see some remains on her shirt," the Jerrie's Dogs & More Facebook page explained.

Joliet Patch produced several articles on Jerrie's in recent years including one 2019 food review of Jerrie's fried bologna sandwich. This past March, Patch wrote about how Jerrie's had recently added a Sloppy Joes daily special for $5.99: two Sloppy Joes sandwiches and a bag of chips.
