Joliet Bicycle Bandit Kicks Dog On Liberty Street: Cops

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police arrested 33-year-old Andre Ross on Sunday afternoon after police say he robbed someone of their bicycle, hat and backpack and was seen several minutes later kicking a dog in the 400 block of Liberty Street.

Ross was arrested and taken to the Will County Jail on charges of robbery, aggravated battery, cruelty to animals and resisting a peace officer.

Joliet police say the robbery occurred around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Collins and Columbia Streets, on Joliet's northeast side.

"It was determined that Ross had approached a male adult victim and demanded his bicycle. Ross punched the victim in the head and took the victim’s bike, backpack and hat," police reports reflect.

As officers looked for Ross, someone notified police of a dog being kicked in the 400 block of Liberty Street.

The person kicking the dog was Ross, police said.

"Officers observed Ross striking a dog with a garbage can lid. Officers placed Ross into custody for animal cruelty after a brief struggle. Ross was then identified as the offender of that robbed the male adult victim," Joliet police reports state.

Joliet police booked Ross into the Will County Jail shortly before 4 p.m. He lives in the 1000 block of the Lois Place apartments. Joliet police said that the victim received their items that were taken during the robbery.
