Joliet Flasher Passed School Bus, Crashed Into Parked Car: JPD

JOLIET ? A 24-year-old Joliet man flashed his private parts, then passed a stopped school bus that was unloading children before crashing into a parked car, according to Joliet police.

Leonardo Gutierrez was arrested on charges of public indecency, according to the Joliet police. Gutierrez's criminal charge is not a detainable offense under the SAFE-T-Act, so he was released on a notice to appear in court.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said at 3:20 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Morgan Street for a report of a male exposing his genitalia to citizens in the area. The officer saw Gutierrez in the street, and Gutierrez was questioned by officers and released after no complaining witnesses were located, English said.

Gutierrez left the area in a Hyundai Santa Fe. While an officer was behind Gutierrez, police said he began to drive in a reckless manner, passing a school bus with its stop arm activated and actively unloading children.

The officer stopped to ensure the safety of the children, and Gutierrez fled in a vehicle, police said.

A short time later, English said Gutierrez was driving the Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on South May Street from Morgan Street and struck an unoccupied vehicle parked on the street. Police said Gutierrez then drove from the crash scene without stopping.

He was located at his house in the 600 block of McDonough Street and placed into custody.

Meanwhile, the officers located the original complainant in reference to the public indecency complaint. As for Gutierrez, he was also cited for reckless driving, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to vehicle and passing a school bus.
