JOLIET, IL — A 56-year-old Crest Hill man has been charged with theft by deception and home repair fraud following a criminal investigation by Joliet police detective Kyle Jelinek. This week's criminal complaint accuses Edward J. Morrison of ripping off a woman who lives in the 700 block of Silver Leaf Drive on Joliet's west side, in a subdivision near Houbolt Road.

The woman entered into a contract with Morrison to install built-in cabinets with shelves on each side of her fireplace on April 13, 2020, the complaint states. The victim wrote out a check payable to Morrison for $2,700 last April 13 "and the defendant did not perform any of the contracted work and did not refund the money," the criminal complaint states.

The other felony against the Crest Hill man charges him with home repair fraud.
