Joliet Police: 2 Arrested After Car Flees On Center Street

JOLIET, IL — A 30-year-old Joliet motorist and his 28-year-old passenger were arrested late Monday night after Joliet police say they fled a traffic stop at a high rate of speed in the area of South Center and West Marion Streets.

The incident occurred around 9:50 p.m.

Joliet police arrested Hershel Foster, 30, on charges of aggravated fleeing/eluding a peace officer, obstruction of a peace officer and also several traffic violations. Foster's passenger, Michael Lane, of Joliet, was arrested on charges of obstructing a peace officer and having an active Will County warrant for his arrest on a charge of resisting a peace officer, police announced.

Late Monday night, a Joliet police officer tried to pull over Foster's car at South Center Street and Marion and the "driver refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed and the pursuit was terminated for safety concerns," according to Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English.

Several minutes later, Joliet police spotted Foster's car parked in the street along the 700 block of Richmond Street, and Foster was still inside, police reports show. Foster was arrested without any problems, police said.

Meanwhile, "officers observed the passenger of the vehicle running from the rear of a residence in the 700 block of Richmond Street. He was quickly apprehended. The passenger was identified as Lane and placed into custody," Joliet police announced.
