Joliet Police Capture OPERATION STREETSWEEPER Shooting Defendant

Joleit police say Nevin McMurtry was placed into custody in Downers Grove by members of the US Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force.

JOLIET ? The Joliet Police Department issued a press release on Wednesday afternoon letting everyone know that 22-year-old Nevin McMurty of Romeoville has finally been captured in connection with a July house shooting on Joliet's near west side.

According to the agency: McMurtry was arrested and taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by felon. McMurty was one of about two dozen criminal defendants being sought by Joliet's Police Department during the early September Operation Streetsweeper dragnet.

Following an extensive investigation of this shooting, the detectives identified McMurtry and 25-year-old Joliet citizen D?Amonta Barber as their prime suspects.

Then on Tuesday, McMurtry was placed into custody in Downers Grove by members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force.

According to the Joliet police, on July 24, at about 5:30 a.m., the Joliet Police Department received a call of shots being fired in the 1400 block of North Center Street. Officers responded to the 1400 block of N. Center Street and discovered several rifle bullet casings in the street. An occupied house and an unoccupied parked car were struck several times.

There was no report of anyone struck by the gunfire from this incident.
