Joliet's Hiring: Several City Hall Job Openings Posted

Working for the city of Joliet is one of the best paying public sector jobs in Will County and there's excellent fringe benefits as well.

JOLIET, IL — If you or someone you know is looking for a new job, you might want to check out the city of Joliet's website. For the first time in many months, Joliet's Human Resources Office has posted a large number of job openings across the city of Joliet.

Several of the jobs pay in the six figures, which is no surprise, since hundreds of Joliet employees make in excess of $100,000.

At least two of the job openings were created by recent retirements. Kendall Jackson, the city's community development director, just retired earlier this month. Another retirement occurred in the public works division where Mike Eulitz retired as the city's public assets supervisor.

The city is also trying to find another attorney to work in the legal services division at City Hall.

Here's a rundown of the current openings at Joliet's City Hall:

  • Roadways Engineer

Salary depends on qualifications.

Job duties: "Plans and oversees the activities of the Roadways, Fleet Services and Forestry Divisions."

  • Building safety inspector

Salary range $56,004 to $101,435.

Job duties: "Routine building and complex technical work in the Building and Inspections Division of the Community Development Department. This includes new construction, additions and remodeling of commercial and residential occupancies."

  • Director of community development

Salary range is $127,875 to $178,322.

Job duties: Heads the community development department and oversees "planning, organizing, directing, budgeting and supervising of the department employees and programs."

  • Public safety clerk at police department

Salary range is $36,494 to $65,770.

Job duties: "Acts as desk clerk in handling of complaints or requests for information at the police department front desk filling out accident and offense reports; reviews police reports and other documents for completeness and accuracy."

  • Director of public works

Salary range is $124,875 to $178,322

Job duties: Plans and directors the operations of Engineering, Roadways, Forestry and Fleet Services Divisions of the Public Works Department for Joliet.

  • Fleet services director

Salary range is $85,085 to $121,502

Job duties: Manages the logistical and repair functions of the city's Fleet Services Division. Plans, directs and supervises the administration of the division.

  • Assistant corporation counsel

Salary depends on qualifications

Job duties: Performs professional legal work, including federal and state civil litigation, prosecution of ordinance and traffic violations, administrative hearings, real estate matters, procurement, employee relations, legal research and various areas of municipal law.

  • Custodian

Salary: $14.28 per hour, part-time job, approximately 25 hours per week.

Job duties: "Sweeps and mops floors, halls and stairways; washes windows, doors and wall; dusts and polishes furniture; vacuums rugs and carpeting; collects and disposes of trash; loads and unloads cleaning supplies and equipment; and keeps records of cleaning supplies used."
