Joliet's Snow Costs: $136K For 4 Local Contractors

The Joliet City Council will vote whether to approve $135,725 for four local construction companies hired to remove snow around Joliet.

JOLIET, IL — The recent snowstorms that dropped almost 11 inches of snow in Joliet two weekends ago will cost the city of Joliet a lot of money.

At Tuesday night's meeting, the Joliet City Council is being asked to approve a total payout of $135,725 for four local construction companies used by the city's public works division to clear snow on the last day of January.

City officials propose paying Austin Tyler Construction $52,980, P.T. Ferro Construction Co. $33,185, J Russ & Company Inc. $29,810 and Construction by Camco Inc. $19,750.

According to city documents, contractors are asked to submit their snow removal equipment rates before the winter. Contractors are asked to have their equipment on standby for snow removal anytime Joliet gets a significant amount of snow.

Invoice amounts vary per contractor based on the number of pieces of equipment used, the number of hours worked and pre-approved snow removal rates, city documents state.

On Jan. 30-31, Joliet had 10.7 inches of snow. As a result, the city's public works and roadways division requested four local contractors to help with snow removal across the city on Jan. 31 at more than 600 cul-de-sacs on both the east and west sides of Joliet.
