Lawsuit Filed in Death of Joliet Biker at Forest Preserve Event
The suit alleges that the Will County Forest Preserve District and Silver Cross Hospital's negligence contributed to the death of James Lorenc on Oct. 5.

The estate administrator for a Joliet man who died during the Will County Forest Preserve District's Cruise the Creek bike ride has sued the district and Silver Cross Hospital, which sponsored the Oct. 5 event.
The suit says the two defendants were at fault in the death of James Lorenc because they “created a dangerous situation” in 1,900 bicyclists began the ride simultaneously rather than at staggered intervals, according to a story in the SouthtownStar.
It also alleges that the district and Silver Cross were at fault because they failed to keep the course free of debris and provide inadequate traffic control, the newspaper story said.
The suit was filed in Will County Circuit Court by Kathleen Lorenc, special administrator for James Lorenc’s estate.
