Man Called Cops to Report the Cops Inside His Home, Police Say

Ilario Silva refused to believe the men who came to break up a fight he was having with his wife were actually police officers, Joliet Police Capt. Tab Jensen said.

They told him to put down the phone. They informed him they WERE the police. They warned him not to call 911.

But an intoxicated Ilario Silva would not believe the men inside his home were Joliet police officers, so when he ignored them and made an emergency call anyway, they slapped cuffs on him and charged him with false alarm/complaint to 911, a felony, Joliet Police Capt. Tab Jensen said.

Officers came to Silva's 422 Ohio St. home at about 9:55 p.m. Sunday on a domestic distance call stemming from a fight Silva was having with his wife, Jensen said.

When they came into the house, Silva apparently thought they were intruders and ran to call the police, he said. The officers told him several times that they were the police and to not call 911, but he disregarded them and placed the call, he said.

Silva is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $15,000 bond.
