Man Crashes Into Joliet Airport Fence Vowing To Kill Woman: Cops

Joliet police responded to the Joliet Regional Airport around 7:30 p.m. and someone crashed through the fence and kept driving on the grass.

JOLIET, IL — A 35-year-old Joliet man crashed through the chain-link fence at the Joliet Regional Airport at a high-rate of speed Sunday night as he was chasing after a woman vowing to kill her and himself, according to Joliet police.

Officers later arrested Jesse McCormick Jr. and charged him with aggravated DUI, DUI, aggravated assault, driving with a suspended license, criminal damage to state -supported property and reckless conduct.

Sunday's incident at 4000 West Jefferson St. occurred around 7:30 p.m. when Joliet police learned that someone drove a car through the fence at the regional airport "and appeared to be chasing someone," Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English notified Patch.

According to English: a woman was driving on West Jefferson Street when her passenger, McCormick, told her he would kill them both, and he grabbed hold of the steering wheel from the passenger seat, causing the car to leave Jefferson Street and crash into the airport fence.

"The female victim fled the vehicle at which time McCormick switched to the driver seat and began chasing her," police said. "The victim then re-entered the vehicle, and they drove to the area of Copley Lane."

Joliet police say that McCormick showed signs of being impaired by alcohol, and alcohol was found inside the car.

Joliet police arrest logs show that McCormick lives in the 1000 block of Elizabeth Street.

Joliet Park District Executive Director Brad Staab told Patch that crews will be repairing the broken fence on Tuesday morning.
