Man Dies After Being Hit By Wrong-Way I-55 Driver: Coroner
The 33-year-old died early Monday morning at St. Joe's after his vehicle was hit by a vehicle traveling the wrong way on I-55.
WILMINGTON, IL — A man died early Monday at the Amita St. Joseph Hospital emergency room, the Will County Coroner's Office said. Nicholas J. Ercolini, 33, of Blackstone, Illinois, about 10 miles southeast of Streator, was the driver of a vehicle hit by another motorist, who was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-55 at milepost 238 in Wilmington.
Ercolini was pronounced dead at the St. Joe's ER at 12:38 a.m. Monday.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. The final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date pending police, autopsy and toxicological reports.
