Man Drove To Elwood To Meet Child For Sex: Prosecutors

ELWOOD, IL —A 54-year-old resident of Des Plaines remains in the Will County Jail following his recent arrest by Elwood police in connection with allegations that he drove to Elwood to have sex with a child.

Police arrested Alfred Charmelo on March 13 and the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has charged him with traveling to meet a minor, indecent solicitation of a child and unlawful grooming.

The criminal complaint states that Charmelo "knowingly discussed an act of sexual conduct or sexual penetration with an undercover persona, whom the defendant believed to be a child under the age of 13 years of age, by means of the Internet with the intent that the offense of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child be committed."

The charge, traveling to meet a minor, states that Charmelo "used a computer online service to solicit a child whom the defendant believed to be a child under the age of 13."

Charmelo remained in the Will County Jail on March 22, unable to post 10 percent of his $300,000 bail, jail logs show.
