Police said they arrived at the Plainfield Township home around 10:15 a.m. in response to the mother's 911 call.

"Officers determined that the mother of one of the juveniles observed a handgun and a large bag of cannabis while both juveniles were asleep in the basement of the residence," Joliet police said.

The mother woke her son and confronted him about the gun, and he became angry. The mother then got her other children, ran from the house and called 911, according to police.
