Next Monday: Will County Veterans Assistance Commission Workshop

The planning workshop for veterans and their spouses will be held on Feb. 4 at 1:00 p.m. at the Will County Office Building.

The Will County Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) in conjunction with the Orland Park Veterans Center is offering a workshop entitled “Planning for your family’s needs – now and in the future” next Monday, February 4th at 1:00 p.m. The workshop will focus on helpful tips for veterans and their families related to burial specifically in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, survivor benefits and much more.

This special workshop will be held at the Will County Office Building, 302 N. Chicago Street in Joliet.

“No one wants to think about losing a loved one but it is important our veterans and their families understand the benefits they are entitled to,” said Kristine McNichol, superintendent of the VAC. “Representatives from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs will be present to share this information and guide people through the planning process.”

In addition to the workshop, the VAC regularly provides financial assistance for veterans and their families based on certain qualifications and guidelines. The Will County VAC advocates on behalf of veterans and also offers transportation free of charge to Hines VA Hospital from VAC’s office.

“The goal in Will County is to offer as many ‘one-stop’ services as possible for our veterans,” McNichol said. “We continue to search for ways to partner with other veteran service agencies to offer as many opportunities at one site as possible. We sincerely appreciate the support of both the County Executive and the County Board which allows us to host these types of events for our veterans.”
