NuMark CU Offers Workshop to Teach Teens About Money Management

Now is the time to teach your teen about the real world. Let NuMark help you with Mad City Money.

NuMark Credit Union will host a youth financial literacy workshop called Mad City Money on Wednesday, July 14th from 11:00am to 12:30pm at the New Lenox Park District located at 701 W. Haven Avenue in New Lenox.

Teenage students take on the role of an adult in futuristic Mad City. They are given jobs, income, a family, and debt. The challenge? Visit merchants to select housing, transportation, food, household necessities, clothing, daycare, and other wants and needs while building a budget. NuMark Credit Union has an office in Mad City, too.

Mad City Money allows participants to make mistakes and suffer the consequences of their decisions in a realistic, but safe, environment. Most participants are surprised to learn "I can't have a big house and a new truck on my salary and still pay for day care and groceries.” Once the shock wears off, they reevaluate their choices and manage their money more effectively.
