JOLIET, IL ? Joliet's east side has been the backdrop of most of the city's gun violence for decades and that alarming trend continued over the weekend. While many of the citizens were getting a good night's rest, at 1:09 a.m. on Saturday, police officers responded to the 200 block of Wilson Avenue for a report of shots fired.

Officers were advised that as a Dodge Durango drove down the street, occupants of a small hatchback type vehicle fired upon the Dodge before fleeing the area. The Durango was occupied by a 17-year-old male driver and two 17-year-old male passengers, according to police spokesman Dwayne English.

No one inside the vehicle was injured, though the Durango was struck by at least one round. A canvass of the area revealed five additional vehicles, and two homes had also been hit by gunfire. Officers recovered more than 30 shell casings at the scene. No injuries were reported.
