Panera Bread Parking Lot Robbery, Joliet Police ID Culprit

The crime at the West Jefferson Street Panera restaurant occurred Dec. 3, according to criminal court records.

JOLIET, IL — The Will County State's Attorney's Office has charged a 29-year-old man from Chicago in connection with an attempted robbery at the Joliet Panera Bread restaurant property in the 2400 block of West Jefferson Street.

The crime happened Dec. 3, according to court records. Last week, charges were filed against Joseph E. Phillip-King, whose last known address was in a basement in the 4700 block of West Congress Parkway in downtown Chicago, his Will County bench warrant states.

Phillip-King is being charged in Will County with attempted robbery, burglary and attempted aggravated robbery, according to his criminal complaint.

According to court documents, Phillip-King approached someone at the Panera Bread parking lot and said he was armed with a gun. The complaint states that Phillip-King tried to take cash from the victim, by threatening to use force against them.

Phillip-King is also accused of entering the victim's tan Chevrolet Cruz in the Panera Bread parking lot intending to commit a theft, the complaint states.

Last Thursday, Will County Judge Domenica Ann Osterberger signed a warrant authoring Joliet police to arrest the 29-year-old Chicago man in connection with the Dec. 3 crime at the Panera Bread property.

As of Jan. 20, Phillip-King had not been taken into custody, Will County Jail logs show.
