Police Use Stun Gun on Woman Refusing to Leave Biz

Artesia Titus and a second woman were arrested for mob action and other charges when they refused a police order to leave a gas station early Sunday morning.

Police were forced to arrest two Joliet women, one of whom had to be subdued with a stun gun, when they refused to leave a gas station early Sunday morning, Joliet Capt. Tab Jensen said.

Artesia N. Titus, 18, and Letha M. Griffin, 38, both of 1323 West Park Front, are accused of trying to go into the Citgo station at 379 S. Chicago St. after being told to leave by police officers working to break up a crowd gathered at the business shortly after the 2 a.m. closing of a nearby bar, Jensen said.

One of the officers grabbed Griffin by the arm in an attempt to get her to leave, prompting her to swing around and attempt to strike him, he said.

Titus allegedly rushed toward the door, and struck an officer in the eye and the right side of his face when he attempted to stop her, Jensen said. The officer used his stun gun to end her attack and take her into custody, he said.

Both women were charged with mob action, criminal trespass to property and resisting a peace officer. Titus was also charged with aggravated battery to a police officer.

Titus is being held in the Will County jail pending a bond hearing. Griffin was released on a recognizance bond.
