Public Artwork Sought For Downtown Joliet, Artists Will Be Paid

The commissioned pieces will highlight and celebrate the cultural heritage of Joliet.

JOLIET, IL —The City Center Partnership, in conjunction with the City of Joliet Arts Commission, announced Tuesday that it is seeking proposals for the commission of five pieces of art.

The artists chosen for the project will be paid $1,000 each and the commissioned pieces will be displayed at local downtown Joliet businesses and at select events during the summer months.

The project aims to generate interest in local art raise funds for the Joliet Arts Commission.

A raffle of the individual pieces will be conducted later in the year and all proceeds will be donated to the Arts Commission.

The art work is intended to celebrate Joliet's cultural heritage. Special consideration will go to proposals that focus on a component of the industrial heritage that is central to identity of Joliet, Tuesday's news release indicated.

Project organizers want the art pieces to be 30 to 42 inches tall and 8 to 16 inches wide. All proposals must include a visual representation and written narrative. The selection committee will primarily review the feasibility and creativity of the proposal, meaning that visual representations from rough contour line drawings will be considered as long as the quality of the visual aspect of the proposal is of a professional nature. Artists will also be required to submit a written description and provide a resume and pictures of previous work. All requirements can be viewed at jolietccp.com/art.

Proposals must be submitted no later than May 19 to Lauren Las at the Joliet City Center Partnership. Accepted proposals will be announced no later than May 26 and the final art pieces are to be completed by no later than July 12.
