Reminder: ‘Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over’ This Holiday Season

The Will County Sheriff's Department has teamed up with IDOT and more to enforce this campaign for the holiday season.

This holiday season, the Will County Sheriff’s Department along with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police and more are enforcing the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign now through January 2.

The goal is to ensure safe roads for all by making sure impaired drunk drivers are off of the roads. With this campaign, there will be zero tolerance for drunk and/or drugged driving. Additionally, seat belt, speeding and distracted driving laws will also be strictly enforced.

“We understand that during the holidays, people are running around, busily checking off items on their to-do list and attending parties,” said Sgt. Kyle Lakomiak. “We need our community members to slow down and remember: It’s up to them to make the smart decision to drive sober — during the holidays and all year long. Impaired driving is a huge problem in Illinois, and, unfortunately, we are seeing a rise in marijuana use and drugged driving, too. Stay safe and stay sober on the roads.”

  • Remember, it is never OK to drive impaired by drugs or alcohol. Even if you have had only one alcoholic beverage.
  • Designate a sober driver, use public transportation, use a ride service, call your community’s sober ride program, call an Uber service, or opt to spend the night.
  • If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact the Will County Sheriff’s Department (815)727-8575.
  • Take the keys away from a friend or family who is about to drive impaired and help them get home safely. They will thank you later.

Funds for this campaign and the Click It or Ticket campaign are provided by federal highway safety dollars.
