Route 52 in Shorewood Closed Due to Blowing Snow

The closed section starts at River Road and ends at Baltz Road, near the Will/Kendall county line, the Illinois State Police said.

White-out conditions due to blowing snow are so bad on U.S. 52 that Illinois State Police District 5 have closed the stretch between River Road in Shorewood to Baltz Road near the Will/Kendall county line.

"Due to the excessively low temperatures and heavy winds, causing snow drifts across the roadways, several vehicles are losing control and crashes are occurring," the state police said in a news release on the closure.

The department suggests alternate routes, such as River Road north to Black Road west to County Line Road and south back to Route 52, be used with caution.

When Route 52 is passable again, the state police will issue a notice that the road has been reopened.
