JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Family Video store on Route 59 and Theodore Street closed for good on Oct. 26, but it didn't take long for another business tenant to surface. On Tuesday night, the Joliet City Council will vote whether to approve a Class C liquor license for United Liquors.

The liquor license applicant is Mukesh Soni and he has 13 years experience at selling alcohol, a city council memo states. The proposed business would be a liquor store.

The existing building has been a Family Video store and "approval of the requested liquor license should not alter the essential character of the area or the city as a whole," a memo advises the Council.

There are two other Joliet businesses that have a license for packaged liquor sales within a one mile radius of the proposed United Liquors, city records show.

Mayor Bob O'Dekirk and deputy liquor commissioner Gabriella Shanahan are both recommending the City Council approve the license for United Liquors.
