Slashed With Knife: Joliet Police Make Arrest, Victim At St. Joe's

Joliet police say they found Willie Lewis in a vehicle at 419 North Bluff Street, where a blood-covered pocketknife was visible inside.

JOLIET ? The Joliet Police Department announced that a 38-year-old suspected marijuana dealer out of Aurora was booked into the Will County Jail following a non-fatal stabbing that happened in the 400 block of North Bluff Street over the weekend.

Willie Lewis remains in custody on charges of aggravated battery, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and an outstanding Kane County warrant.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events led to the Aurora man's capture on Saturday on Joliet's near west side:

  • On February 8, at 8:42 a.m., the officers responded to the 400 block of Western Avenue for a stabbing. They found a 39-year-old man with slash wounds to his face and head.
  • The victim told Joliet police that Lewis attacked him with a pocketknife in the parking lot of 419 North Bluff Street after he spoke with his child?s mother.
  • Lewis allegedly ran at the victim and slashed him. The victim then drove to Western Avenue to tend to his injuries before being transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Officers found Lewis in a vehicle at 419 North Bluff Street, where a blood-covered pocketknife was visible inside. He was taken into custody without incident. A search of Lewis uncovered suspected cannabis, while suspected cocaine and the knife used in the attack were recovered from the vehicle.
  • Officers also discovered Lewis had an active Kane County warrant for failing to appear in court on previous resisting arrest charges.
