Stay Off Interstate 80 Near This Joliet Exit: Fire Department
The Joliet Fire Department announced a sodium phosphate leak at I-80 and Richards Street on Joliets east side. Here's what's known now.

JOLIET, IL ? Joliet Fire Chief Jeff Carey issued a press release shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday saying that the Joliet Fire Department is working a hazardous material spill at eastbound I-80 and Richards Street.
There is a semi leaking liquid sodium phosphate. Sodium phosphate is a corrosive liquid, he noted.
"There is no immediate threat to anyone in the area at this time," Carey informed Joliet Patch. "I-80 eastbound is currently shut down from Center St to Briggs Street. I will update you when the situation has been mitigated. We just wanted people to avoid I-80 and Richards Street area at this time."
