They're Hiring: Joliet Police Department Needs More Officers

Joliet police had about a dozen retirements in 2020. January saw the departures of Chief Al Roechner and Deputy Chief Darrell Gavin.

JOLIET, IL — One of the better paying police departments in the entire Midwest is ready to hire several more police officers. On Friday morning, the Joliet Police Department made the following announcement on its Facebook page:

"We're hiring! The Joliet Police Department is starting the testing process again for the position of Patrol Officer! Applications will open in 3 days! Stay tuned to our social media to get more details! #ServeWithJPD #JolietPolice."

In recent weeks, Joliet Patch reported that the police department for the fourth-largest city in Illinois was down to 248 officers, which is two dozen fewer police officers than the city is authorized.

Within the past month, the Joliet Police Department also has made major changes in its upper administration command after lots of problems within the department in recent years.

Joliet Police Chief Al Roechner retired in January and three of his four deputy chiefs were demoted by Joliet's new permanent chief Dawn Malec.
