JOLIET, IL — So much has changed in the last 100 years. There have been 18 presidents of the United States. The first man went to space, and then Neil Armstrong went on to plant the first human footprint on the moon. The 19th amendment granted women the right to vote. Computers, internet and cellphones were invented. The Chicago Cubs even went on to win another World Series. And for the Robinson family, their matriarch came into this world 100 years ago on May 10, 1919 — Ms. Cora Lee Robinson.

On this day in 1919, Cora was the first and only child born to Ben Johnson and Bunion Knox in the South. Although her mother Bunion unfortunately passed away when Cora was just 5 years old, she was raised with lots of love and the close company of her extended family.

Cora eventually went on to meet and marry the late Randolph Robinson. The couple moved from the South to Joliet, Illinois and went on to have 6 children. As a working woman, Cora enjoyed several positions in and around Joliet with the Joliet Arsenal and Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Will County. She retired in her 70s, but her love for taking care of others then led to her working with Catholic Charities well into her 80s and receiving an award for her amazing work with the organization.

Now at 100, Cora has joined an elite group known as centenarians. Yet she’s enjoying life as if it’s just getting started, as she should. She continues to stay stylish and trendy, maintain her love for collecting dolls, and stay on top of watching pro wrestling and her soap operas. Her love for dogs even compels her to give to pet adoption agencies.

The amazing mother, affectionately known as Big Momma, has several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and neighborhood children who are able to shower her with the same love and care that she has shown some many others during her 100 incredible years on earth.
