Tomczak Law Group Buys Downtown Joliet Building

Tomczak Law Group is one of the most prominent criminal defense firms in downtown Joliet often handling high-profile cases.

JOLIET, IL - A prominent downtown Joliet law firm announced Wednesday it has purchased the old Liebermann's Jewelers Building as the new home for the Tomczak Law Group. The firm plans to move into the multi-story building at the corner of North Ottawa and Van Buren Streets in the coming months once the extensive renovations finish up. The firm is working with architects Healy, Bender & Associates.

In recent times, the building served as the Church of the Good Shepherd.

"Our entire staff is excited about this project," said office manager Becca Bianchi in a press release. "Our new state of the art facility, located one half block from the courthouse, will further improve the personal attention that is so important to our clients and our practice."

He is married to Amy Bertani-Tomczak, a Will County Courthouse judge. "Having worked here for the past 30 years, my wife Amy and I are resolved that there is no better time than the present to invest in downtown Joliet."

The law firm currently leases office space at 116 N. Chicago St., near the Rialto Square Theatre. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

"With the new courthouse beginning soon and Mayor (Bob) O'Dekirk's dedication to reviving the downtown area, this is a perfect step in the right direction for the law firm," Jeff Tomczak said.

The Liebermann building at 81 North Ottawa Street has a rich history in downtown Joliet. The jewelry store was opened in the late 1880s by Louis Liebermann. A 1993 Chicago Tribune article notes that the Liebermann building was built in the 1870s.

Besides criminal defense, Tomczak Law Group specializes in personal injury cases. The other lawyers in the group are Patricia Kalkanis and Robert Bodach.
