USF Creates New Leadership Doctorate Degree Program

The program is designed for professionals in non-profit and public-sector organizations, training facilities, community colleges and other institutions.

The University of St. Francis has created a new doctorate program in stewardship, leadership and learning.

The program, which launches in January, is designed for professionals seeking "leadership roles in non-profit and public-sector organizations, training facilities, community colleges and other institutions," according to a news release on the new degree.

“This program is designed for leaders in a variety of fields, who want to fulfill their dreams of earning a doctoral degree,” said Dr. Stephen Midlock, coordinator of doctoral programs in USF’s College of Education.

“Throughout the program, they will learn about the practical aspects of upper-level leadership such as management of facilities, human resources and collective bargaining, stewardship of resources, governance of the organization, as well as the importance of servant leadership and employee professional growth.”

The new program includes:

  • The dissertation, taught chapter by chapter through coursework;
  • Dissertation topics of importance and relevance to the candidates and their employers;
  • A topic-driven curriculum that is supported by current, online resources;
  • Program completion in 3.5 years;
  • A focus on servant leadership, good stewardship of organizational resources and ethical and moral decision-making;
  • No admission tests, such as the GRE;
  • Locked tuition rate until graduation;
  • All courses are rooted in the university’s core values of respect, service, integrity and compassion.

“This doctoral program is very exciting... with its innovative structuring of the thesis, is a perfect complement to the college's already excellent array of programs,” USF Provost Frank Pascoe said.
