Will County Buying Smith YMCA On Briggs St.
There had been tremendous interest in the property, which consists of more than 25 acres of open fields, plus the Smith YMCA building.

JOLIET, IL — The Will County Board voted Thursday to authorize Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant to sign a letter of intent to purchase the Smith YMCA property along Briggs Street for $2.1 million.
After being open for 43 years, the YMCA closed the recreation center at the end of March. YMCA membership had been declining for several years. Joliet's east side YMCA opened in 1978.
The Greater Joliet YMCA wanted to ensure this property would be used to serve the community as a food hub, training facility, day care center and a veteran’s home, Anastasia Tuskey, communications director for the Office of Will County Executive, informed Joliet Patch.
