Woman, 56, Shot To Death In Joliet: Coroner

The woman was pronounced dead around 2:20 p.m., the Will County coroner said.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police on Wednesday were investigating the possible shooting death of a 56-year-old woman.

Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of S. Illinois Street in Joliet's St. Pats neighborhood at 6:44 a.m. after someone reported a woman had been shot in the home, Joliet Police Department said in a press release.

When they arrived, police found a woman dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

The Will County coroner pronounced the woman, Sonja Underwood, dead around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.

The coroner said an autopsy will be conducted on Thursday to determine Underwood's cause and manner of death.

Authorities said an investigation into the death is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Joliet Police's Investigation Unit.
