Woman Beaten, Choked At Star Inn Motel On Jefferson Street: Cops

Joliet's Star Inn Motel at 2219 1/2 West Jefferson St. had at least 244 police calls last year.

JOLIET, IL — A 26-year-old Joliet man was arrested over the weekend at the Star Inn motel on West Jefferson Street after police say he choked a female relative and smacked her in the face several times with his fist.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Joliet police responded to the motel and arrested Joseph Russiaky on felony charges of aggravated domestic battery.

"Officers determined that a female victim had been battered by ... Russiaky. During an argument between Russiaky and the victim, Russiaky struck the victim multiple times in the face with his fist, causing the victim to fall to the ground," Joliet police reports show.

After the woman fell to the ground, Russiaky choked her to the point that she momentarily lost consciousness, police said.

The domestic violence victim ran from her motel room and called 911 and officers arrested Russiaky without any problems, officers said.

In December, Joliet Patch published an article revealing that the Joliet Police Department has responded to a staggering 244 calls for service at West Jefferson Street's Star Inn Motel between Jan. 1 and Dec. 8, 2020.

A total of 43 police calls were serious enough to warrant a full police report of the incident.
