Streets Reopen, Garbage Pickup Delayed in La Grange

Also: updates on cancellations around the village.

Updated: 1:46 p.m.

All village departments are responding to flooding issues in La Grange, Assistant Village Manager Andrianna Peterson said Thursday morning.

The intersection at 47th Street and East Avenue and several local streets were closed due to high water, she said. They reopened by early afternoon, but debris from the flooding could be seen strewn about the streets in southeast La Grange.

A vehicle struck a signal at La Grange and Ogden, but traffic was still able to pass through the intersection, she said. The accident has been cleared and signals are functioning normally.

Crews are out clearing sewers and making sure water can flow, Peterson said, but the situation is improving. The underpass at Ogden and the BNSF train tracks was closed due to flooding earlier in the morning but reopened by about 9:30 a.m., she said.

“Things are starting to regulate a little bit better now,” she said. “It’s probably helping that the rain doesn’t seem to be coming down like it was.”

Garbage removal is delayed for residents on the south side of La Grange scheduled for Thursday pickup, she said. Allied Waste is having a hard time getting its crews out because Mannheim and Lake is shut down right around its truck yard.

Though some trucks should be able to get out to La Grange Thursday, the process is expected to continue through Friday.
