Boys' Church League Basketball Season Wraps Up In La Grange

Quarterfinals, semifinals and championships will all take place this coming Saturday in Western Springs.

The NBA season might be far from over, but for some La Grange residents, a more exciting basketball season is wrapping up closer to home.

This Saturday, March 4, fans of church league basketball — an organized sports season for religious teens — will be able to see the boys’ season come to an end at St. John of the Cross Parish School in Western Springs.

“Church league basketball has taken La Grange and the surrounding communities by storm over the past few months, and all of the excitement culminates [in] this weekend, championship weekend,” resident Chris Sedlacek said in an email.

In church league basketball, groups of churches band together to organize a regular season for both male and female teenagers. While the boys’ season is just ending now, churches are currently recruiting for the girls’ season, which starts in March.

Games, including quarterfinals, semifinals and finals for both the junior and senior leagues, will start as early as 3 p.m. Saturday in Western Springs and continue until the 9 p.m. championship.
