LA GRANGE, IL — These days, many people are trying to find ways to show support for health care workers who are on the front lines of the coronavirus epidemic. La Grange and Western Springs residents are no exception.

One example is La Grange attorney John Dixon, a Western Springs native. Last week, he purchased 35 meals for nurses at the hospital in La Grange. He bought them at Hash Stacks, a Western Springs restaurant.

Hask Stacks owner Dean Georgelos is working hard to provide carryout service, despite all the challenges, Dixon said. It opened last year, replacing Salty Fig.

"Dean is a really good guy. He's an active person in the community," Dixon said. "He's keeping everything spinning."

Nurses at the Amita hospital in La Grange, Dixon said, are understandably scared.

"Some of the nurses I talked to are going to work every day because they need to and it's the right thing to do. They fear they are bringing (the virus) home to the family, and they're going anyway," Dixon said. "That blows my mind."

Many residents, he said, are trying to find ways to help nurses and other health care workers.

"Buying meals was the easy part. The nurses have the hard part," Dixon said. "There is a La Grange hospital meal train. Other people are doing the same thing. Every day, food is going to the hospital."
