FBI Ups Reward for Information on 'Midday Bandit,' Who's Robbed Chicago, La Grange Park Banks for Years

The Bandit has robbed a total of 12 banks now, and the reward has been increased to $25K.

The Chicago branch of the FBI announced Thursday the reward for information about the “Midday Bandit,” who’s been robbing banks in the Chicago area for two years now, has been increased to $25,000.

The reward was upped by the Chicago Crime Commission, according to a release from the FBI. The money is up for grabs for anyone who can provide the police with information leading to the serial bank robber’s arrest.

The Midday Bandit, whose moniker comes from the time of day he commits his crimes — usually between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. — has now robbed 12 banks in the area, including a handful in the western suburbs. His latest offense was at a Chase Bank in Chicago and happened on August 12.

He’s also suspected of trying to rob four other Chicago area banks in the last two years, including in La Grange Park, but wasn’t successful in those attempts. He allegedly approached bank employees, demanded money and threatened harm to people in the building in each case, the FBI reported.

However, no physical injuries have been associated with any of the Midday Bandit’s robberies.

The Bandit is described as a black man in his late thirties, about 5-feet-11-inches tall, and weighing somewhere between 160 and 175 pounds. He’s worn glasses and a variety of hats during the robberies, and is considered armed and dangerous, the FBI said.
