Flood Damage Reports Due by Noon Friday in La Grange, La Grange Park

The reports will help determine whether the villages get federal disaster relief funds after last week's flooding.

La Grange residents and business owners who suffered damage from last week’s flooding are encouraged to submit a form documenting the issues to Fire Chief Bill Bryzgalski by noon Friday.

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency will use the reports to determine whether it should request federal disaster relief funds for La Grange.

“We fared quite well in comparison to our neighbors, but nonetheless it was a significant event and our sewers did reach capacity,” Village Board President Liz Asperger said during Monday’s meeting.

“The safety of our communities is our number one priority, and Cook County personnel will continue to work with local jurisdictions to address flood-related issues,” Preckwinkle said Monday said in a follow-up statement.

The county offered the following advice to people dealing with flood damage:

  • Ensure there is no structural damage before you go back in your house.
  • Make a list of lost or damaged items, including their cost, and take pictures of damage to your home.
  • Don’t turn on power until an electrician has looked over your wires.
  • Get wet items out of your house immediately so they don’t mold.
  • Use bleach to clean areas drenched by floodwater.
