La Grange Mother, Philanthropist And Lifelong Cubs Fan Passes Away At 83

Monica Lee (Green) Rehwaldt, 83, of La Grange, IL, passed away February 12, 2017.

Monica Lee (Green) Rehwaldt, 83, of LaGrange, IL passed away February 12, 2017.

Monica was born at the Lying-In Hospital of Chicago, IL in October 1933 to the late Clifford and Marion Green of Peoria, IL. Monica graduated from Woodruff High School and attended Bradley University where she graduated with an accounting degree in 1955. Soon after graduation, Monica married the late Bernard “Ben” Rehwaldt of Pekin, IL and the two moved to Chicago where they both worked downtown. After starting a family, Monica and Ben moved to LaGrange, IL, where they raised their 5 children and lived until passing.

An active member of the community, Monica was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, a Girl Scout leader and council member, and a volunteer with the PEO Chapter in LaGrange. She was involved with and worked for Community Support Services and Community Extension Project for many years. For over 50 years, Monica was heavily involved with the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange, where she served as treasurer for most of her time there.

Monica was a member of the LaGrange Country Club, where she enjoyed playing golf and meeting friends for dinner. An avid Cubs fan all her life, she was thrilled to witness them win the World Series in 2016. Monica also enjoyed bridge, travel, gardening in her yard and spending time with her family and friends.

Monica is survived by 5 children: one son, Stephen (Cindy) of San Antonio, TX and 4 daughters: Leanne (Terry) Welch of Carlock, IL – Holly Rehwaldt of Chandler, AZ – Laurie (Kevin) Moeckly of Chandler, AZ – Kelly (Ross) Ketelboeter of Palatine, IL.

Monica is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Jason, Erin, Wade, Monica, Alana and Jenna, and 2 great-grandchildren: Jace and Easton.

Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will hold a Celebration of Life ceremony at a later date. Interment will be private. There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange or the Kiwanis Park Endowment Fund of LaGrange.
