La Grange Park Named 1 of 10 "Burglary Safe Zones" in Illinois

Protect America compiled data from the FBI to form its annual list.

If the break-ins you've been reading about in police reports have been worrying you, you might want to move to the La Grange area.

According to Protect America, La Grange Park is one of 10 Illinois cities with the lowest burglary rates in 2016, the La Grange Park Police Department announced.

Protect America compiles an annual list of 10 cities in the state that are "Burglary Safe Zones" and 10 that are "Burglary Hot Spots." Safe zones have the lowest burglary rate, while hot spots have the highest.

The agency produces the list based on FBI data. It's important to note that burglary data was not submitted for each and every city in Illinois.

La Grange Park came in number 9 on the "Safe Zone" list, with only five burglaries last year in a town of 13,685 people.

Topping the list was Waterloo, with just one burglary in a population of 10,224. Other safe zones were Gilberts, Spring Grove, Barrington Hills, Bartlett, Palatine, Indian Head Park, Palos Heights and Inverness.

Making the first spot on the "Burglary Hot Spots" list was McCook, with seven burglaries in a town of just 232 people. Other cities that made this list were Sauget, Danville, Cairo, Henning, Hoopeston, Harvey, Mount Vernon, Phoenix and Eldorado.

The La Grange Park Police Department reminds its residents to always lock vehicles, houses, garages and sheds, and to keep valuables out of sight in those areas.
